| Beginning at the marble-mill you can make an interesting and experience-rich hiking through the Almbachklamm. The way was built 1894 by pioneers of Ingolstadt . To make the klamm passable, 29 bridges and bars were established, 320 stony stairs and a small tunnel were blown up into the rock. The Theresienklause at the upper end of the Klamm was a weir and built 1834/36 by the royal saltworks administration. The accumulated water served for the wood drift through the Klamm, whereby approx.1000 ster wood in each case could be washed to the rake at the marble-mill. When both saltworks in Berchtesgaden were still beaconed with wood, the drift was large, the drift through the Almbachklamm served for the supply of the saltworks in Berchtesgaden. The saltworks in Marktschellenberg were already closed in 1805. |
