Der Königssee mit Schiff im Frühnebel

Fjord-well-behaved the Königssee is situated embedded between Mount Watzmann, Hagen mountains and Steinernes Meer. Its bank falls steeply off and the cliffs rises not fewer steeply up around the lake . Remarkable is also the elongated form of the sea-basin. In its longitudinal direction the lake measures 7.7 km, its largest width amounts about 1.2 km. With its surface of 5,2 qkm it counts to the smaller Bavarian lakes, with its depth of 185 m it belongs however to the deepest Central European lakes. Thus that differs the king lake very remarkably from the remaining Bavarian lakes, which are throughout in the flat, hilly fore alps and developed before 12000 years under the influence of the last ice age. The Königssee is driven today by electrical boats.

The fleet increased in the meantime to 21 boats. The ship courses over the lake begin in the summer already early and end late in the afternoon.
Intermediate courses, which are inserted depending upon requirement, guarantee a punctual transport of the guests also in the main travel
time. The courses can be interrupted in St. Batholomew as well as in Salet. Shipping is operated the whole year over and adjusted only on freezing up of the lake.
